Advantages Analysis of Induction Hardening Equipment

Induction hardening equipment is a device that uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to directly heat the workpiece. Therefore, high-frequency quenching equipment, high-frequency welding equipment, medium-frequency quenching furnaces, medium-frequency melting furnaces, etc. are also referred to as induction heating furnaces.

Induction hardening is a metal heat treatment process that uses the principle of electromagnetic induction heating to heat the metal workpiece to a suitable temperature and hold it for a period of time, and then immerse it in a quenching medium for rapid cooling. This greatly improves the strength, hardness, wear resistance, fatigue strength, and toughness of the steel, and meets the different requirements of various mechanical parts and tools.

In general, the induction hardening equipment is suitable for the heat treatment of workpieces with simple shapes and large production quantities, as well as for military, automotive, tractor, railway locomotive and other industries where hot forging, hot stamping, and metal melting processes are involved.

Advantages of induction hardening equipment

Today, we will mainly summarize the advantages of induction hardening equipment compared with fuel industrial furnaces, natural gas industrial furnaces, coal-fired industrial furnaces, and resistance furnaces:

Fast heating speed can greatly improve the production efficiency of induction hardening equipment, and can be combined with other process equipment to form a continuous production line.

Short heating time, high efficiency, the efficiency of induction hardening equipment can reach 80% to 95%, and the efficiency of induction melting furnaces can reach 65% to 75%, while the heating efficiency of the flame furnace (fuel industrial furnace, natural gas industrial furnace, coal-fired industrial furnace) is only about 20%, and the heating efficiency of the resistance furnace is only about 40%.

Using induction hardening equipment, due to its fast heating speed and short heating time, the oxide scale burn-off rate of the workpiece is only 0.5% to 1%, while the oxide scale loss rate of the flame furnace is 3%. Induction hardening equipment can save at least 2% of materials compared to the flame furnace.

If the heat treatment workshop uses induction hardening equipment, the workshop temperature can be greatly reduced due to the low heat dissipation loss, which improves the working conditions. Moreover, induction hardening does not produce smoke and dust, and purifies the workshop environment.

The reason why induction hardening has higher hardness than conventional hardening:

Induction hardening is a fast heating and fast cooling process, and the grain size and structure are very fine;

According to its heating and crystallization characteristics, the chosen heating temperature is often higher than the normal heating temperature;

The heat of induction hardening is concentrated on the surface, and the relative heat is small. The heating and cooling is fast, so the quenching effect is good.

In order to ensure the quality of quenching and improve the mechanical properties of the part, normalizing or tempering preheating can be carried out before surface quenching.

For parts with low requirements for mechanical properties, normalizing preheating can be carried out;

For parts with high requirements for mechanical properties, tempering preheating can be carried out.
